![]() ![]() Absent putting in the practice time, you might as well throw rocks. There are no shortcuts here there’s nothing you can buy that’s going to guarantee your success past 300 yards. Make sure the front of the sight is facing the shooters eye. Place the front sight in the dovetail by hand to determine how much fitting will need to be done. Clean the dovetail of any gun oils or residues with an alcohol based solvent. But it took me six summers of intensive shooting, and who knows how many thousands of rounds of ammunition. Remove factory front sight using brass or nylon punch while barrel is securely locked in vice. I can now shoot well enough that I can put 18 out of 20 shots in a 6-inch circle at 600 yards. And, you need to figure out how to compensate for wind, and its insane little brother, mirage. Also, unless you’ve put in some trigger time, when the moment comes to shoot for meat, whatever you think you know will go right out of your head. Factory drop tables are very accurate these days, but they’re not Real Life, and you need to find out what Real Life consists of if you want to sight in your rifle properly. I can’t overemphasize the importance of doing the actual shooting.
